The artist, Andrea Brewer, discovered an outlet for both her creativity and scientific interests after falling in love with the medium of clay following a ceramics class in her mid-twenties. This hand built ceramic sculpture uses a stoneware clay that has had ground fired clay mixed into it. This, combined with a dry finish, mottled glaze creates the beautiful textured quality to the surface resembling the rusts and patinas that nature creates on man made materials.
This stylised mechanical form appears strangely organic – a reminder that many man-made materials originated from natural materials.
Beautifully handcrafted cog base complete with silk shade.
