The artist, Andrea Brewer, discovered an outlet for both her creativity and scientific interests after falling in love with the medium of clay following a ceramics class in her mid-twenties. This hand built ceramic sculpture uses a stoneware clay that has had ground fired clay mixed into it. This, combined with a dry finish, mottled glaze creates the beautiful textured quality to the surface resembling the rusts and patinas that nature creates on man made materials.
The beautiful and pleasing form of the spiral has symbolic significance which can be seen extensively through nature in the form of plant structures, patterns of growth and the movement of the elements.
Beautifully handcrafted spiral base complete with silk shade.
